WORTH THE FLIGHT
AlUla doesn’t need much help looking impressive.
The harder question is how I’d actually travel it.
My answer: slowly.
Don’t arrive with a list of seventeen things to conquer.
Choose the hotel carefully. Give yourself time for Hegra. Leave room for the landscape. Book one memorable dinner. Wake up early at least once.
And don’t spend the entire trip trying to manufacture the photograph you’ve already seen online.
AlUla’s scale is the experience.
The rocks are enormous.
The desert keeps going.
Silence becomes part of the itinerary.
This is exactly the kind of destination The Curator wants to follow: ancient place, completely new travel chapter.
THE CURATOR SAYS: Go for the monuments. Leave talking about the landscape.
The substance of an AlUla visit starts with Hegra's Nabataean heritage, followed by Dadan and Jabal Ikmah for different archaeological stories. I'd check whether Maraya has a public tour or an event on the relevant dates. These are guided, scheduled experiences, not landmarks I'd assume I could simply walk into.
