THE CURATOR EDIT

Some hotels are where you sleep.

Some become the reason you open the airline app.

My shortlist has one requirement: the property needs to change the trip.

A desert lodge where switching off isn’t a wellness programme—it’s unavoidable.

A Nile boat where waking up somewhere new is part of the room.

A mountain hotel where skiing out the door matters more than the minibar.

An island resort where the journey there already feels ridiculous.

I don’t care whether the property has 20 rooms or 500.

I care about the sentence:

“I want to go there.”

That’s what hospitality ultimately sells.

Not rooms.

Desire.

And those are the hotels you’ll find here.

THE CURATOR SAYS: The best hotel booking begins before you’ve decided on the destination.

La Maison Bleue in El Gouna, Adrère Amellal in Siwa and a carefully chosen Nile cruise are three entirely different examples of travel built around the accommodation. I'd still check the exact room category, transfer logistics and meals: even an extraordinary property can disappoint if those basics don't match expectations.
